HOW I WORK

Beginning psychotherapy or counselling

Deciding to start a course of psychotherapy or counselling and investing money working on yourself can be a life-changing experience. It is something you need to think carefully about. Finding the right psychotherapist can feel overwhelming at a time when you may be feeling particularly vulnerable. Don't be afraid to ask questions.

I do not hold a waiting list as I feel that, if you make contact, you are wanting to get support as soon as possible. If I have no availability when you contact me I will be happy to suggest other suitably qualified therapists or put you in touch with an excellent referral service who will not charge a fee for finding a therapist for you!

An experienced and qualified psychotherapist

If you decide to work with me you will be working with someone who:

  • is fully qualified, accredited and UKCP registered
  • has undergone a thorough and reputable training
  • has been in private practice for over 25 years
  • as a BCPC practitioner is committed to a recognised Code of Ethics
  • is in regular supervision with a registered supervisor
  • is committed to ongoing work on her own sense of ease and well-being

What we can explore in psychotherapy

Together we will work on whatever you bring to the session. These are just some of the areas you may wish to explore:

Relationship difficulties
Depression and/or anxiety
Loss or bereavement
Caring for a partner
Coping with an illness
Feelings of isolation
Loss of direction
Search for meaning in your life
Self development
Dreamwork

How long does psychotherapy take?

Our work will normally be open-ended unless, at the beginning, we decide together on a fixed amount of sessions. "How long will it take?" is often a question clients ask at the start. Everyone is different and there is no definite answer to this question but one that comes to mind is "As long as you need".

Ending therapy

We all deal with endings in different ways depending on our previous experiences in life. It is important to allow yourself enough time to ensure that ending therapy is done in a thoughtful, worked-through way. This enables you to think about your reason for ending, reflect on the work we have done together and, above all, to give space for your feelings about this ending.
